Understanding And Developing Personal Power

A key component of spiritual growth is Personal Power. In various forms and under myriad names, this concept has been a focal point of spiritual travelers for thousands of years.

The extent to which you understand and master your personal power will play a vital role in every spiritual pursuit, from intentionally manifesting your ideal reality or finding your life’s purpose, to understanding the lessons of life and being of genuine service to others.

What Exactly Is Personal Power?

Personal power is your essential capacity to transmit, direct or redirect, receive, transmute, deflect, deactivate, and otherwise interact with individual, collective, and cosmic energies. This is obviously a very broad statement, but the intangible nature of the subject matter requires a somewhat abstract conceptualization.

Put more simply: Personal Power is the dynamic component of your connection with the higher mind and the causal force (or source).

Beyond the level of ego mind, we all have access to a higher self and/or collective consciousness. So too are we all connected to the energetic source from which all reality flows.

The relevant distinction is the clarity and quality of your union with the higher mind and causal plane. In other words, the cleaner and more open your connection to source is, the greater your personal power will be.

Contributing factors at the level of body, emotions, and intellect include self esteem, gratitude, generosity, focus, the ability to relax, and many other attributes. It’s fair to say the more balanced, healthy, and engaged you are at the physical, emotional, and intellectual levels, the more empowered you can become.

How Relevant Is Personal Power To My Daily Life?

The impact of personal power can be very concrete, far-reaching, profound, and spectacular. Alternatively, personal force can be quiet, subtle, passive, and still.

Whether soft or hard, the manifestation of personal power is always about both your unique contribution of intent and the freedom with which universal source is able to express in and through your form.

So while the term “personal” is used to designate your individual sense of empowerment, the ability to trust and experience your connection to the infinite consciousness of the Universe is actually the most relevant factor. Too much pressure and presumption from your ego center will actually negate your effectiveness in this area.

The more aware you are of your oneness with the field of energy at the source of all things, the greater your personal power will be. For this reason terms such as “life force”, “spirit”, and “essence” are interchangeable with “personal power”. Ancient traditions from around the world provide insights to the nature and application of this force, and you’ve probably heard or read about concepts like Chi, Ki, Prana, and many others.

I may refer to specific systems and practices throughout the content of this site, but I intend to avoid promoting any specific, formal doctrine. Terminology and formality are secondary to the actual experience.

The essential spiritual quest is the enhancement of personal power, as this is the root of expansion, growth, joy, and fulfillment.

Regarding the practice of deliberate manifestation, your personal power will define the clarity of your vision and purpose, the magnitude of energy you can direct toward your desires, the strength and integrity of your vibration, the patience with which you enjoy each new moment, your level of gratitude and compassion, plus much more.

In day-to-day living, everything from your confidence and ability to draw boundaries in relationships to your sensitivity toward another’s feelings and your ability to say the right thing at the right time will play out in accordance with your level of personal power.

Without a doubt the enhancement of your individual force should be a foremost value.

How Can You Experience Optimal Personal Power?

There are actually several things you can do to increase personal power. Below are a few worthwhile suggestions.

Some listings will provide a link for more information, but this isn’t the case for each item below. The following systems and practices will probably come up in more detail in future articles. I just wanted to provide a brief synopsis and overview of a dozen quality pursuits.

Relax and avoid feeling any pressure to take on everything on the following list. Enjoy the suggestions that resonate with you and leave the others for someone else to play with.

1. Mindfulness Practice

The simple practice of living in the present moment will expand and enhance you in a multitude of ways. Embracing silence through regular meditation and just allowing each moment to unfold without straining against it or overthinking are the logical first steps to any spiritual power program.

2. Basic Physical Exercise

A fit, flexible, energized body is the key to instant focus and long-term enthusiasm. Your body is every bit as sacred and spiritual as your mind and it’s important to care for yourself on the physical plane. Simple walking sessions (20-30 minutes at least) are a fantastic start; light weight training, calisthenics, and sports are additional opportunities to care for and tone your body while having fun in the process.

3. Hatha Yoga

The different forms of Hatha Yoga allow you to engage in physical exercise that is specifically designed to activate and enhance the body’s subtle energy centers and pathways. You’ll get the benefits of a great workout plus direct access to your personal energy grid.

4. Chakra Meditations

A basic introduction to and study of your chakra centers is another way to access and work directly with your natural energy grid. The chakras are centers of energy and consciousness found at certain points in your body, with the major seven being along your spinal pathway. Developing an awareness of these centers and learning to move energy through them is an amazing process of discovery and growth.

5. EFT Tapping

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a fascinating system that involves locating and tapping along specific paths and points on your body to release negative energy and restore positive energy. The results you can get with only a small amount of education are astonishing. The best digital resource I’ve found for learning the basics of EFT is the Tap Yourself Free mini-course by Magnus over at “Tapping Tips”.

6. Energy Channeling Systems

There are a wide range of systems that teach you to directly harness, project, and otherwise work with the flow of life force. In many Eastern martial and monastic systems such as Reiki, Aikido, Tai Chi, Yoga, Qigong, and others you’ll find a very wide variety of philosophies, methods, movements, and rituals that can plug you directly into the free moving energy of the universe. With time and patience you can literally feel the heat and power building in your palms and coursing through your body as you practice. I have seen and participated in what can only be described as miracles through my involvement in systems of this nature and I highly recommend this pursuit to anyone with an interest.

7. Regular Reading And Studying

Knowledge and a fit, active intellectual mind are important aspects of personal power. By simply reading for 15-20 minutes per day you’ll expand your wisdom and mental capacity far beyond the norm. Consider that 15 minutes per day will result in 1 or more books per month, or 12 books minimum per year – that’s 60 new books every five years! I recommend business, spirituality, philosophy, marketing, personal development, psychology, and even entertaining fiction to tone and empower those mental muscles and expand your personal power.

8. Personal Development Programs

Personal development, self help, self improvement – whatever you may call it – is a vital part of growing your power and becoming your ideal self. You should understand that all of your favorite writers, speakers, teachers, and coaches are investing considerable time and money on personal development. Listen to audios while driving, take advantage of free teleclasses online, look for local presentations at Unitarian churches and entrepreneurial organizations, and put together your own unique program to refine your strengths and address your weaknesses.

I’ll be reviewing books/programs and recommending a few specific practices that I enjoy in future articles.

9. Traditional Talk Therapy

Contrary to what the obtuse mainstream thinks, you don’t need to be “sick” or crazy to benefit tremendously from traditional therapy and counseling. Having a trained professional to talk with and share your thoughts can do you a whole world of good! Imagine how great it would be to be able to look at yourself with total objectivity; you’d be more effective, compassionate, and productive. This is a great way to connect with yourself and discover new potential.

10. Dowsing

Dowsing is a spiritual practice that allows you to quickly get information and direct/transform energy using simple tools and a combination of ancient and modern techniques. Though I knew about this method for years, I got involved with dowsing for the first time in 2008. If you have an open mind you’ll catch on very fast, and the odds are great you’ll be no less than astonished by what you can achieve with this quiet pursuit.

The man who introduced me to the art of dowsing is named Raymon Grace. We’ll be looking at some of his techniques later, and perhaps even having him along for an interview or a couple of seminars. In the meantime I urge you to have a look at Raymon’s Website.

11. Crystals And Gemstones

Most ancient cultures around the world have revered gemstones, crystal formations, and many similar objects that come from the earth. From China and Greece to Ireland and Native America, various personal and spiritual properties have been assigned to gems and crystals based on colors, shapes, folklore, and the regions where these treasures are typically found. Many people believe each type of crystal has a special magnetic energy, while others suggest this field is all about conditioning the unconscious mind.

Personally I have an immense collection of crystals, and these wonderful tools are a big part of my daily meditation and energy work. I’ll be incorporating this into future content but if you’d like to know more now I recommend visiting any “New Age” bookstore or geology shop in your town.

12. Having Fun

Lest all this stuff start to sound like hard work, let me remind you that having a good time, laughing, and enjoying life is perhaps the best way to enhance your personal power! Life is, after all, about expansion and happiness in this moment. Catching a movie with a friend, playing your favorite games, having sex, taking trips to new cities, camping, sports, coin collecting, anything you enjoy immensely needs to be a major part of your life.

If I had to recommend only one item from this list, it would be the one you’re reading right now. If life can’t be fun and sincerely enjoyable what’s the point?

Understand that your personal power reflects and is influenced from the physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and energetic spheres of your existence. Therefore a complete spectrum of practices and methodology is ideal for maximum enhancement.

I hope you’ve found this information useful. In the future when I write about the use of Personal Power I’ll link back to this post. There is MUCH more that can be said on this topic, but as with most things spiritual you’ll be filling in the blanks with your own experiences and insights.
